IN GREAT BRITAIN, the Police Central E-Crime Unit, which operates inside London's Metropolitan Police, has scored its first victory. The specially trained cybercops have arrested nine members of an eastern European gang based in London who had infiltrated computers at various financial centers and stole money from clients' accounts. The gang used what's known as a banking Trojan, malware that works its way into a computer and steals data. Once inside, the gang simply transferred money out of legitimate accounts and into phony accounts, then simply withdrew the money as cash. | |
